In August the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, was devastated by major explosions, causing at least 181 deaths, 6000 injured, billions in property damage and leaving an estimated 300.000 people homeless. In its aftermath grief turned to widespread outrage with mass protests calling out the government's corruption and dysfunction and demanding major political reforms.

@sourafilmfest, @iqmff, @lebanese.nl, @detweedejeugd and @lab_111 join hands to support Lebanon by celebrating its rich (cinema) culture with a selection of films, talks and food from the region.

All proceeds of these various events and film screenings will go directly to three trustworthy NGO's

Un honramos a quienes ya no están, a quienes lucharon y luchan, a quienes viven y esperan una cura, a quienes con su activismo combaten el estigma. ⠀ En Venezuela, el año pasado murieron más de 5.000 personas por causas asociadas al SIDA. La falta de tratamiento ha convertido una vez más el VIH en una condena de muerte para miles de personas que no pueden acceder a tratamiento. ⠀ Una persona diagnosticada con VIH usando el tratamiento adecuado puede volverse Indetectable, es decir que el virus disminuye tanto que no puede ser trasmitido a otros. El tratamiento con antirretrovirales acaba con la transmisión del VIH. Los avances médicos permiten que la carga viral en sangre sea indetectable y por tanto el VIH es intransmisible. La ciencia ha avanzado mucho con el tema, pero la sociedad no.
