the real horror of house of leaves is writing a paper in chicago style
The climbing of a mountain reflects redemption. That is due to the force of the word above and the power of the word up. Even those who have long ceased to believe in Heaven and Hell, cannot exchange the words above and below.
Erhart Kästner, from Olberge Weinberge (1960)
Quoted in Mark Z. Danielewski, House of leaves (Anchor 2000), who identifies the author as Erich Kästner – see here
Tom's Crossing is here!!! new danielewski horror novel!!!

just started house of leaves. only a few chapters in but i like the part where zampano references borges and it goes so far over johnny's head he has a breakdown over it
On a scale of one to ten, how anxiety-inducing was your reading of the House of Leaves?
One being "little to no change" and ten being "I experienced nightmares and paranoia on a regular basis and eventually lost myself enough to take a long trip in search of the House only to end up at the ruined remains of my dead mother's old psychiatric hospital and then forget half the trip later on."
