Holy shit. Daniel Fish is a genius. Run for tickets to @oklahomabway ! This show is so delightful and terrifying, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. I was bawling at intermission. It’s experiential theatre but you are in seats the whole time. The actors are Fucking top notch, the songs you think you know you will think about differently. It’s the show our country needs right now. It’s rapey and shootey and gendery and comments deeply and lovingly on this place we live. @oklahomabway is truly one of best things I have seen in my life. We took the kids and Vera was not into it but Felix loved it. It made me glad to be alive that I got to share this with my family. I had seen it before. I missed it at St. Ann’s, and actually I missed the Summerscape production too. But I was there for the very first show of the Bard student production. And I have been friends with Daniel since The Woman Before (I think 13 years ago, Felix was 2, I was still breastfeeding when the babysitter brought him to visit at the theatre) And I got see they are friends I adore @astabennie !!!! I loved seeing you! And @j.k._all_day !!!! I am now working on my first draft of a new solo show - and I was reminded that Daniel directed/ developed my *last* solo- (What I Know About) My Parents’ Sex Life aka Fuck Me Like It’s 1945 for solo nova at PS122. He had me give the audience ice cream in my show when I talked about my dad feeding my mom ice cream in the nursing home. He cast me as the lead in The Woman Before- the freedom I felt as an actor to be my best self. When a director believes in you! Especially since confidence is a big part of the equation. He gets amazing performances. I am totally in love with his Curly, and terrified of/ sympathic to his Judd.The chemistry on stage! Ado Annie& Will are so sexy, and Laurie&Curly. I have seen so much of Daniel’s work, I can see the best of ideas he has been working on his whole career. Race and class and violence.
