Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (24 May 1686 - 16 September 1736), was a famous Dutch physicist, inventor and scientific instrument maker. He is well known for his invention of the mercury-in-glass thermometer (1714) & the alcohol thermometer (1709). The Fahrenheit scale, which he developed is still the most widely used temperature scale in the USA.
