2 hours, 51 minutes and 48, 49, 50, 51, 52 seconds had passed since Y/N left the home she and Merry shared, but is not like he is counting the time, definitely not.
His right foot tapped unceasingly the wooden floor of their livingroom while he patiently waited for his wife to come back with the berries and plants she went in search for to the Old Forest, worry growing deep in his belly as his brain knew she did not took that long to go and come from there, specially since she was riding her pony over there.
What if she fell and broke something and she couldn’t move? Or if the spiders made their way and established in the Old Forest and nobody knew and she was trapped in their webs? Shoot, he was worrying himself to death.
Should he go and search for her? No, she told him to wait. Should she tell the boys? Nah, she can think he doesn’t trusts her. But it was geting late...
Maybe she needed help picking berries? Yeah, that definitely was the case.
“Alright.” The blond-haired hobbited sentenced, taking his coat off the coat rack, grabbing their house keys and leaving their shared home to search for his wife.
Once the door closed behind him and his hand took hold on the gate, his mind went wild again...
She told me to wait. She must be okay.
180-degree turn over the ball of his feet and back to opening the door.
But what if she’s not?
He closed the door.
But she probably is.
The door opened again.
But what if not?
And the door closed again.
“For the elves’ sake Mr. Brandybuck, just go.” The neighbor told him, a tired look on their face as all they tried to do was to take care of their hydrangeas and peonies.
“Yeah, yeah, sure, sorry Ms. Longbottom.” He said, finally running off to the forest. His mind still debating why was she taking so long to arrive back home.
After about 10 minutes of swicthing between running and tirely walking he arrived at the border between the pacific land of the Hobbits and the Old Forest, his heart thumping on his chest with worry, adrenaline and a bit of fear but mostly with what Pippin would call the power of love as all he wanted was to find his Y/N, his dear and lovely wife.
Stepping in he started wondering why he didn’t brought any tool with him, or, anything at all.
His eyes wandered around the forest, trying to spot his loved one between al the trees and tall bushes the Forest had, making it a bit more difficult for him to find her until he finally heard her low humming to her favorite song and her h/c hair around 15 meters from him.
“Y/N” he breathed, his feet starting to move on their own towards his wife, happíness replacing all worry he felt in his body at the sight of her being safe and sound. “Hi Y/N!” He called, running towards her with his liitle legs.
“Merry? What- Merry, dear, wait!” She yelled, but it was way to late as he trespassed the bush that was at the border of a natural trench that the forest had from an old river that dried, falling around three meters over ground and more plants. The basket full of berries and other things in her hand falling to the ground as she srung over the edge of the trench, looking for Merry at the bottom. “Love, are you okay?”
“Yes, yes, I think I might’ve broken something but besides that, I’m as good as ever.” He mutterst, getting up and with his palms shaking the dirt of his trousers before looking up tp find his beloved wife looking down at him. “Don’t you dare and try get out if you are hurt, wait a second.” She instructed before dissapearing from his side, to what Merry obeyed, his gaze still up in the sky as noises of ruffling appeared, in around three minutes the h/c-colored head peaked again over the edge of the trench before a hand threw a side of a blanket to him.
“Tie yourself with that.” She instructed once again, Merry obliging and once he was done she smiled, going out of his sight again and suddemly Merry was slowly being lifted out of the trench, once his head was over the edge his eyes opened wide to see the mechanism his wife had out out, finding a reindeer that pulled from the blanket to try and escape while being tied too, his eyes wandering off to his wife who stood aside, ready to untie the blanket once her husband was out the trench, the reindeer hopping away and far away.
His knees rested on the wet soild as his wife’s smaller hands took his to pull him to his feet. “What are you doing here, love?” Her worried eyes travelked along his facial features, curiosity masked behind her pupils. “You were taking longer than usual picking out the berries so I wanted to come and take a look.” He muttered, a bit ashamed by the turn of events. “But you are alright, so I guess I could’ve waited and spare you from the effort you just made.” He said, his eyes wandering around with shame and only looking back at his beloved after she took his hand in hers, small fingers clasping around his palm.
“Don’t you worry abour it love, I’m glad you’re here with me now, I was picking up some raspberries and some herbs before finally heading home, so now you can walk home by my side.” She smiled, so widely and full of love Merry couldn’t help but to feel butterflies fluttering in his stomach with adoration and happiness. “And maybe then you can help me baje some berry pies and dinner.”
“I must’ve been a saint in my last live to deserve soeone as amazing as you, Y/N” He muttered with a dumbfonded gaze, utterly in love with his wife, how laughed at his words and jokingly hit his arm for them to start heading home.
Wow. Merry thought, I can call this person my wife.
“I’m still thinking I should have married you sooner, my dear.”
“I’m glad just by being married to you Merry.” She replied, tugging as his arm as they wandered through the forest back to their hole, to their lovely home. But to Merry, he could be everywhere and as long as he was with her, he would be at home.
