This snippet came about while tossing around ideas for stories we're writing with @lavenderbagginshield. Specifically, it came up that it would be great fun if Nori (as fandom has made him: thief, prankster, spy, whatever else of that nature) were to meet Merry and Pippin in their youth. (Or rather, pre-Quest, even younger youth, as Pippin isn't even of age even in FotR 😅)

This could be canon compliant or some sort of Everybody Lives AU, whatever. If Bilbo is there at all, he is a background character in this one.

While he's traveling in the Shire, visiting Bilbo, or on the way to or from, Nori overhears two little hobbit “pebbles,” as he'd call them. As he listens to them, Nori realizes they're conspiring to do some sort of prank/heist/shenanigans, take your pick. (Stealing mushrooms, maybe? Or is that too obvious? 😆)

At first, Nori just listens, amused, until he eventually is noticed or says something. Merry and Pippin, as the little ones introduce themselves to be, are at first worried that this dwarf will tell on them, to Bilbo or their parents or someone, spoiling their fun. But instead, Nori offers them ways to improve upon or avoid potential problems with their plan. Helping them not get caught during their heist, maybe? Introducing them to the concept of creating a distraction? Basically fine-tuning their plan, just a bit. Taking it from children being silly to something that will actually work.

Perhaps Nori even joins in pulling it off. (Maybe even gets some of Bilbo's relatives mad and then leaves him to deal with it. 😅)

So, yeah. The unstoppable force to be reckoned with, of Nori, Merry, and Pippin. Eru help- I was going to say the Brandybucks and Tooks, but no- Eru help *the Shire*. Look out. 🤣
