THE LAST TIME I PHOTOGRAPHED ANN RICHARDS: March 19, 2004. AND MAY THE BEST HAIR WIN...
By DANIEL KUSNER @dankusner
The Fourth of July may be months away, but expect fireworks when two of Texas' fiercest lawmakers square off to talk politics.
On Friday, The Women’s Museum will host its first annual fundraiser "Stories from the Top: A Conversation with Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and the Honorable Ann W. Richards.”
These two should have plenty to talk about.
Former Texas Governor Richards recently delivered a fiery speech about conservatives enraged by recent successes in the gay community at the 2003 Dallas-Fort Worth Black Tie Dinner.
And Senator Hutchison recently pledged to support the proposed constitutional amendment against gay marriages.
Rena Pederson, editor-at-large of The Dallas Morning News, will moderate the discussion.
Book signings of Hutchison's “Nine and Counting: The Women of the Senate” and Richards' "I'm Not Slowing Down: My Battle With Osteoporosis” will follow the presentation.
The Women's Museum: An Institute tor the Future, 3800 Parry Ave. in Fair Park. March 19 at 7 p.m. $150. 214-915-0897.

A STORY SO QUEER....
FROZEN LULLABIES Radio Hairdo live at Texas Tavern inside the Texas Union, Austin. Aug. 2 1991
I became Radio Hairdo yet again: Inside the Battle Hall men's room (which was gender neutral for the SPREAD magazine photoshoot that lured Melanie Grizzel — the first time I got to team up with a photojournalist from The Dallas Morning News. And then again — years later — on the Battle Halls’ top floor is UT’s Architecture Library, which owns a copy of my book,“214 Trans4m.”
"As a lyricist, Solberg describes the duo’s creative process as a cooperative effort. “Dan does a lot of the arrangements. I bring stuff in, and then he helps me arrange it. And then he’ll say, Let’s try something new and experiment. For me, writing songs is … not something I think about. It’s just something I feel like I have to do. It’s just a form of expression for me.” Kusner adds, “And then she comes over with this ‘form of expression’ and then we kind of hammer it around. If anything, I think our philosophy is that it’s just fun.” — Daily Texan
"Frozen Lullabies" became Radio Hairdo’s "Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
For the record, I wrote this song — a 6/8 waltz...
The melody was inspired by a classic Chicagoland childhood listening to "Hardrock, Coco and Joe" (aka the three little dwarfs) Ole olady olady I oh / That's Hardrock, and Coco, and Joe Now listen my children and you shall hear / A story fantastic, a story so queer
RADIO HAIRDO was overexposed
From Radio Hairdo inside the Texas Union to the SPREAD photoshoot inside the Battle Hall’s underground bathroom to the University of Texas at Austin: Architecture and Planning Library that proudly holds “214 Trans4m” in its catalog.
Somewhere in between was Daily Texan and DMN.
