Going north had been the most logical conclusion that the two could come up with. The women they were looking for had been in unfamiliar lands, oceans of green grass filled their dreams at night, with mountain peaks unfamiliar to both of them. 

“They wear thicker clothing,” Nicolo had pointed out quietly one night, while they went over maps they had bought from a merchant. “North would make sense.” 

Yusuf had gone to market the next day to get them the appropriate attire.

Months later they were in territory far from the ocean, where the mountains were always in view, and great trees dominated the land in leaves Yusuf had never seen before. The weather had indeed been colder, but it was a cold that neither of them had ever experienced before, and although they would come back from such a death, neither wanted to die from the cold. 

He looks across their small camp to see Nicolo struggling to light the fire, his long fingers shaking as they try to grasp onto the flint. His gloves were gone, disappearing in the last town they had stopped at. 

Somewhere a stranger’s hands weren’t shaking from the cold and the thought makes Yusuf smile. 

Feeling for his friend through his struggle, Yusuf makes his way over to Nicolo’s side and crouches, taking the flint from his hands and starting the fire. Nicolo smiles, something small and grateful and only for Yusuf, and despite the cold, he feels warm. 

At night the wind howls and Yusuf shakes. His bones rattle and his back aches from trying to fight his body’s reaction to the drastic drop in temperature. Next to him, but not beside him, Yusuf can see Nicolo shivering as well.

“It’s freezing,” Nicolo bites out through chattering teeth. “Come here.” 

For a moment Yusuf thinks perhaps the cold had made him gone mad. Nicolo was rarely one to seek out touch of any kind, let alone ask for it. He’s about to ask if Nicolo was sure, but the other man huffs and lifts his blanket and beacons Yusuf with a wave of his hand, inviting him to join Nicolo in his warmth. 

Yusuf settles in next to Nicolo, his body relaxing at the added body heat radiating off of his friend. For a moment he allows himself to believe that they are sharing a bed for other reasons than finding warmth against the cold.

spending time together, talking about literally anything. i just love when ppl just make an effort tbh (a huge reason im not friends with a lot of ppl from high school anymore is bc they never did that)

50. what made you laugh the hardest you ever have?

lmao one time in high school we had this substitute for my french class who legit fell asleep during class, but he fell asleep sitting up in the chair. and he kept slowly leaning over when he was sleeping and then would jerk up and then go back to leaning over and we spent the entire hour cackling our asses off waiting to see if he’d fall off the chair (he didn’t)

when bull riding, you have to stay on for 8 seconds to get scored
