J. Giles Dead at 71
J. Giles, the namesake guitarist of the J. Giles Band, was found dead in his Massachusetts home April 11, Billboard magazine reported.
No cause of death was given.
Giles was with the “Love Stinks” band from its 1967 founding until its initial breakup in 1985. He participated in its periodic reunions between 1999 and 2012, at which point the J. Giles Band - most associated with charismatic harmonica player Magic Dick and frontman Peter Wolf - carried on without J. Giles.
“We all thought it was you in the ‘Centerfold’ video,” former MTV personality Martha Quinn tweeted after Giles’ death was reported.
The band issued 11 studio albums between 1970 and 1984. Those records spawned classic-rock radio warhorses like “Give it to Me," "Whammer Jammer" and “Must of Got Lost” in the 1970s and megahits such as the aforementioned “Centerfold” and “Freeze-Frame" in the ‘80s.
Giles was 71.
