Okay, so I’ve been writing a painfully verbose essay nitpicking everything that disappoints me about “The Ultimate Enemy” upon each rewatch, on and off over the last couple of weeks, so I thought I’d screencap the bits of the episode I wanted to use as evidence and subtitle them as visual aids for the essay (more of a formal rambling, really), to make the length less painful to look at...but I realised that the further I got into the episode, the saltier I got with the issues I was getting evidence for, and the screencap names went from simple labels to downright shitposts.

So I took this screenshot as I was working.

I’m not even halfway through the episode yet, by the way. Luckily, these are just me grabbing whatever screencaps I can on impulse to select the important ones from later, but still...oh, christ.

Some of my favourites include: “Clockwork Canonically Trying to Fucking Murder Danny”, “Making the Nasty Burger’s Severe WH&S Violation Public Knowledge”, “The Only Thing Worse Than a Character Assassination is a Literal Assassination” and “Well, Apparently Mr. Lancer said Fuck to All of His Humanity Towards Danny in Teacher of the Year”.

(I know I’m probably a masochist, melodramatically criticising a fan-favourite episode, but I still like the concepts and some of the story beats/scenes; I just think the executions of quite a few of the important concepts aren’t too great when you rewatch it as an adult and apply more thought to it, and it’s driving me crazy rn.

Yes, feel free to pull all the torches and pitchforks on me when I post the essay...if I ever post the essay. Hoo, boy...!)
