“Oh! I feel him!”
Danny exclaimed in excitement with his hands on my belly. I laughed at the sight of him being so giddy and childish. He’d come to me every hour just to feel my stomach, expecting a kick from the baby. I ran my hand on his hair, unable to contain my happiness. I remember when I told him I was pregnant. At first he seemed really pissed off since he wasn’t sure he was ready for such a big responsibility, but seeing him now, all excited and happy, makes me feel really warm inside. A few months ago when we were at the hospital to have an ultrasound taken, we were then told that we’re expecting a boy, and Danny literally screamed in pure joy, throwing his hands up in the air. He even hugged the doctor for telling such wonderful news. It’s really cute.
“Oh God,” he then turned his eyes to me, “Only two months to go.”
I bit my lip, thrilled but at the same time nervous. “Yeah.”
“Oh baby I can’t wait,” he stood up to kiss my forehead. He then looked at me and said, “Hey, don’t you be all nervous, okay? Everything’s gonna be just fine.”
I nodded, a smile blooming on my lips. Just as he was about to lean in for a kiss, we heard a knock on the door. Smiling, he sighed. “I’ll get it.”
He rushed to the door to find his older brother Benn standing at the door with some groceries in his hand.
“Bro!” Danny gestured for a handshake, “What a surprise!”
“Yeah I was around town, thought I’d pay my little brother a visit,” Benn stepped in handed the groceries to Danny, “Here, I picked ‘em up for you guys.” He came up to give me a hug, “Hey (Y/N)! How’ve you two been?” He then came up to me for a hug.
“All good,” I said, rubbing my belly, “A little tired at times but good.”
“Awesome. I can’t wait to see my little nephew!” Benn sounded as enthusiastic as Danny usually is. I’m so glad that Benn has been really supportive to us. He’d occasionally stop buy and get us stuff for us and the baby. He even made some suggestions on how we should decorate our nursery. He’d totally be the baby’s second dad (not in a creepy way please don’t get that wrong).
“So how’s the nursery coming?” Benn asked us as he walked towards the nursery. “Still a lot to do. We finished the base paint but we haven’t—“
My sentence was cut off when Benn opened the nursery door to reveal the walls decorated with paintings of a sun, clouds and a stork. I was immediately left in awe and I slowly walked towards the nursery. The last time Danny and I worked on the nursery, we only finished the base paint.
“Danny?” I turned around to see him, who was already looking on his feet and scratching his head. “When did… When did you do this?”
“Uh, yesterday, when you were, um, hibernating,” he said teasingly.
“Oh, wow. Hibernating? Really?” I came over to him to give him a punch in the arm but before I could do so, he pulled me into a deep hug and I wrapped my arms around him tightly. “Thank you so much baby, it looks lovely!”
“Aww, you guys are really cute I’m getting diabetes,” Benn said in mock awe.
“You wanna know what’s cute, Benn?” I let go of Danny’s hug and immediately took out my phone from my pocket, “Here, come look.”
Benn walked up to me to see what I was talking about. On my phone was a video I took a few days ago, and it was of Danny.
“NO!” Danny literally screamed, “Gimme it!”
Danny tried to snatch the phone away from me but failed since Benn put his hand on Danny’s forehead, stopping him from going any further. It was a video of Danny storytelling to a teddy bear. Yes, he actually did that. Without my knowledge he bought a book of children’s stories and practiced reading it on the giant teddy bear he got me when we were dating. He was really into it, with all the facial expressions and intonation and all. My suppressed chuckling could actually be heard in the video since it was absolutely hilarious. I’ve never seen Danny like this before. Benn literally burst into laughter, certainly pleased.
“Jesus, Danny you’re such a dork!” He said inbetween laughs. I laughed along with them, and I could see Danny getting really embarrassed.
“Shut up Bennett,” was all he could say to his brother. He gave me a death stare but I wasn’t at all threatened since he looked so cute with his face flushing bright red.
“Naw,” I walked back to him, slightly feeling guilty for making him this embarrassed, “I’m sorry, baby.”
He kissed the top of my head and said, “That’s alright.” There was then a short pause before he said, “Anyway, how did I do?”
“You need more practice, Daddy Danny.”
