I’m going to make my option short and sweet because @retrogradeaftermath basically said what I was feeling:

I love Dave. He was my favorite in the band because he not only is a diverse musician, but one of the nicest, most honest guys I’ve ever met on the scene (Taddie takes a close second). I see why he needed to get out; and I’m sort of happy he did. He seemed distant during Warped, and it didn’t surprise me that he wasn’t on tour with the guys after Hawaii. He made the right move to improve himself, and unfortunately, CTE had to get the butt end of it.

I also still love CTE. While the post was pretty salty towards Dave, I kind of understand why. Whatever happened in Japan must have been bad, especially if it rears a band apart. While I like Retrograde, it wasn’t their best; production wise. It does seem over done and not their style, but I hope this next album turns them around. And maybe they’ll realize that ghost writers aren’t cool in this genre of music.

Overall, from what Dave posted and what CTE said, it sounds like management might have put a wedge in between Dave and the rest of the band (especially if he wasn’t allowed to participate in CTE events). Dave saw what the band was doing to him, voiced his problems, and was basically shut out after. I hope the band and Dave eventually reconcile, but until then, I hope nothing for the best for both sides 💙

Honesty.

I guess today for me is Crown Honesty day so here is my opinion. Feel free to agree or disagree. In my opinion, Bennett and David were the ultimate talent of Crown the Empire. Benn was constantly writing new material for the band whenever he had down time. He played lead guitar, sung and screamed background vocals, and even once filled in for David when he was sick. Benn also helped produce The Resistance: Rise of the Runaways. I understand that Brendan Barone helped write from the very beginning but after Benn left, it seems like Crown has a writing team now. Benn had a lot of creative control when he was in the band hence all of the storylines. David is also very talented. He sang clean vocals and screamed unclean vocals flawlessly. He even played guitar in The Resistance & Retrograde and started performing playing guitar too. By no means am I saying the other four aren’t talented because that certainly isn’t the case, but they have absolutely no right to say David hasn’t contributed to the band in the last four years especially after admitting to having a writing team and very little creative control in the creation of Retrograde.

I really want to hear what you guys think because I seem to be the only one in the Crown tag to be strongly voicing their opinion so please message me/send me asks or publish posts.

I'd also like to say I don't have a problem at all with artists hiring writers. Writing music, making music and playing music different talents. It's fine if you need help with writing but I just don't appreciate the band saying Dave hasn't contributed when they aren't making their own stuff 100%.

David’s Statement:

I love David with all my heart. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and he’ll always be special and important to me.

If you don’t feel like reading this whole thing, Dave basically said that he knew he needed a lifestyle change after abusing drugs and alcohol. Something happened at the Rise Records tour in Japan that caused Hawaii Metalfest to be his final tour. He only had contact with his manager in which he said he can’t be involved with any activities with CTE. After he got home from Hawaii, he decided to step down from CTE. After that, he hasn’t heard from any of the 4 remainders, meaning they cut him off completely. He was also unhappy with the creation of Retrograde. He didn’t have any creative control and “no contribution” was certainly not the case.

David deserves the whole world and I wish him every bit of success.

DUDE THANK YOU for the opinion post you wrote. Cause that's exactly how I feel. The rest of Crown is being salty as fuck and Dave is handling it to the best of his abilities. I'm just curious to see their respective musical futures.

Unbelievable and disrespectful.

Basically to sum everything up, I’m upset that the band took a huge shit on David by saying he didn’t contribute creatively. I’m sad to see him go and I hope the remaining 4 can produce good music still. I know David is very talented so I’m hopeful for his projects too.

My thoughts on David leaving CTE and the Facebook post.

In the last 3 months or so, it was obvious that things between Dave and the remaining 4 have been a bit sour. I didn’t want to post any of my thoughts and opinions on here yet until they themselves have said something, so here I go: I’ve noticed right after Hawaii Metalfest that Andy and Dave unfollowed each other on Twitter and Instagram. At the time, I brushed it off thinking they got into a little argument and they were both salty so they unfollowed each other. Then, it was announced that Dave would be taking a “touring break” right before the OM&M UK Tour— how convenient... I then thought “wow good bye Dave” but still didn’t mention anything. He eventually unfollowed everyone and even the band account. And here we are now, the Facebook post. When I saw the tweet notification and this was honestly me:

I was more like Finally they’re going to say something rather than Oh no, here it is. When I read “We've never heard or seen Dave make anything, artistically or musically in the 4 years he was in our band, so we're just as excited to see what he does make as you are.” I literally said what the fuck out loud. That statement honestly made me so angry. If you’re parting ways with someone, don’t be so sour. I’m very disappointed at the people who constructed that post. IN MY OPINION FROM WHAT WE SAW, Dave contributed a lot. He sang clean AND unclean vocals and even played guitar. That Facebook post made me angrier than I already was from seeing this:

When I saw Dave’s comment, I was infuriated. I don’t know if this makes anyone else made but to me, this means that when Dave peaced out of Crown, the band probably told them to keep quiet even if he wanted to say something. I have a lot of respect for Dave for honoring that because he could’ve honestly exposed them so bad. What Crown did, in my opinion, was wrong. They essentially lied to their fans. They said “touring break” rather than telling the truth. The only reason why I’m saying they lied is because of Dave saying he wish he could say something if it was his choice. It was obviously a cover up so they can later on announce it. They did this with Benn’s exit too. Crown’s method is to slowly rip the bandage off rather than a quick rip. It’s much easier to say it (close to) immediately so that they don’t have to keep putting it off and saying Of he’s just on a break. Them waiting to announce it makes it harder for fans because they have to keep waiting. The reason why I’m writing this, whether anyone gives a shit or not, I want people to know that I’m not going to be up any of my favorite’s asses. If they fuck up in my eyes, I’m not afraid to admit that. I know a lot of people will be like I love you guys no matter what. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with loving your favorite people, but if they do something wrong in your opinion, don’t be afraid to voice that. This post made me mad and I’m not afraid to say it. I wish the best of luck to David in whatever he decides to do. Even I don’t love whatever he makes, I will still support him. He’s a good man. And I also wish the best of luck to the 4 remainders. They’ve lost 2 members in 2 years so hopefully they can make it work and still make kickass music.
