Sunday Six

Haven’t done one of these in aaaages, but I’m just so gosh-darned excited about @the-wordbutler’s birthday-fic-in-progress!

Stiles has been missing for four months, six days, and eighteen hours when he bangs twice on the Mahaelanis' back door, says, "Oh, good, you're here," and passes out.

It's pure luck that Danny's there at all. The apartment seems too big and too empty without Stiles there, so he's started eating dinner at his parents' place more nights than not. But there's reminders of Stiles here, too; pictures from the big family trip to Waimea, the ugly-ass LA Kings bobblehead set that Danny's dad insists on displaying proudly on the mantel, the flannel shirt Stiles left here five visits ago and never remembers to grab when they come back.

So most nights after dinner, Danny gets restless, and he goes for a run, and he runs and runs and runs until he's too exhausted to hear his own thoughts anymore. He’d just been putting on his running shoes when Stiles arrived.

Danny doesn’t believe in fate. But sometimes things work out better than he could’ve hoped.

Sunday Six: Ah-HAH! I was right.

As predicted, I finished a first draft of the fic now known as "Happy Orange Cat." So be on the lookout for that at some point. And have one more little blippet of it:

Danny leads them out the no-longer-actually-alarmed security door at the end of the hall and around the corner of the building into the courtyard. He picks a spot near the building, on the other side of the wall from where one of the white noise machines has been placed. The machines help the werewolves and other supernaturals with heightened senses filter out distractions. But they also help humans have conversations that won't be overheard by supernaturally sensitive ears.

Stiles drops on a bench and waggles his eyebrows at Danny. "So it's one of those conversations, huh?" he asks with the most ridiculous, exaggerated leer, making Danny laugh.

Then Danny sighs and drops next to him on the bench. He looks at his hands in his lap. He's doing that a lot lately. It's not helpful; his hands don't have any answers his mind hasn't come up with already.

Stiles stills beside him. "Oh," he says quietly. He takes off his glasses and tucks them into his shirt pocket. "It is one of those conversations."

Sunday Six: No, YOUR face doesn't make sense!

While I'm letting revision ideas on another piece percolate, I'm noodling around with this odd little thing, which I have @cynicalwerebear to thank for.

"Can you be here in an hour?"

Danny has no idea where "here" is. It absolutely does not matter. He's already up, moving toward the door, cramming his feet into the first pair of shoes he comes across (possibly Stiles') and searching for his keys. "Tell me where you are," he demands. "I'll be there an hour ago."

"That doesn't make sense," Derek says peevishly.

"Your face doesn't make sense," Danny snaps.

There's a pause and then a long-suffering sigh. "He is such a bad influence on you."
