October 15, 2014 - Writing Firefly

October 15, 2014 - Commute Day 183

Worked on a cover of 'Our Times, Our Lives' by Chadwick Stokes last night. I'd like to create my own take on the song, then also a simple video for anyone who wants to learn it.

7:15 - alarm goes off. Woke up early today because Liz has an 8:15 dentist appointment in Yorktown Heights. 

7:35 - depart for train. Roundabout is sad... I guess the 8:18 train is sweetspot for that, since it's also generally bad for the 8:42 train. 

7:48 - arrive at train station.

7:52 - train departs. I read a early rough draft of a Firefly Spec Script Danton started, and I'm super excited by it. Looking forward to developing it and mixing our styles together. Just jotted down ideas and notes on the train.

8:56 - oh wow, the train isn't like super late! Crazy. Maybe I should be taking this one in the morning. Bikes are still sparse, but I managed to grab one from someone parking.

9:13 - arrive at the office! parked on 18th street. Still mostly full, but there was a spot.  Total commute time this morning: 1:38

June 19, 2014 - Day 114

Left at 7:20 this morning, and surprise surprise, it was a lightning fast commute. I'm headed to Philadelphia tonight to see the opening of my play, "If You Were the Last Man", put on by my good friend,

listening on Kindle Fire: Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin show, which I haven't listened to in a while. Another one where they talk about the end of a season (in this case, Game of Thrones). I get that these are instant takes, but inevitably I find these frustrating since I tend to listen to them a few days after the season finale, so the hindsight I have combined with a generally higher proficiency of knowledge (for both Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones), makes me want to shout key information at them when they're confused or trying to remember something. I did enjoy Pat Cassel's pre-show theory that Stannis would invade King's Landing, despite the fact that he clearly said he was going north to the wall. But I like that he recognized that somehow, Tyrion was going to have to survive, and the idea of the rest of the Lannisters being thrown in jail with him is certainly amusing.

For the first time in my life I'll have two plays of mine rehearsing at the same time. Sure they're both one acts, and I'm directing one, and the other is being directed by a friend of mine, but still: yay. This one will be performed in Philly around mid-June. This post is also a sneak peak into how I evolve a script over about a month (most of that time spent trying to not look at it so I can have fresh eyes). Enjoy!
