Agreeing to meet Gwyn in one of the small Crown holds once belonging to his brother, George. The King made his way across the quiet field in his riding boots, having walked from the entrance and eager to see Gwyn whom he spotted at the small holding gate. He smiled to her warmly and moved to greet her properly.
He had barely held that idea of a friendly greeting in his mind before there was a thunderous clap that resonated through the grassy hills, starling the cows into a charge and the sheep into a tight group, the hounds at the hold sounding loud alarms.
Albert, on the other hand, was deadly quiet as one hand stretched out towards the wall and the other clutched desperately at his lower ribs. Near collapsing against the old stones, he shook and checked his other hand, revealing a large and rapidly growing patch of blood. He grimaced and covered the wound again, pressing his head against the wall and breathlessly cursing to himself.
He didn’t have all that long to keep that up before his legs gave way and he slid down the wall, leaving a vivid red track down the stones, falling to his knees and trying desperately to drag in air that was struggling to stick in short and laboured breaths.
