I love wearing ties/bow ties and having some fly shoes to match. Brands don’t matter too much as long as you can make it look good! Most of my accessories come from Harrison Blake Apparel. I also just started buying my button ups from H&M (men’s section). They fit really well and I like the different styles.

On the eve of a new administration, one of our New Year's Resolution here in public programs is to continue to use the museum as a welcoming space to gather, hold space, be critical, offer resources, and of course celebrate --because we know that for many of us who hold marginalized identities, this is an act of resilience and resistance in and of itself. So let’s start the year off right! For January’s First Saturday we’re inviting you to imagine new futures and kick off the new year in honor of our Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum. In 2017, our monthly Target First Saturdays will center female-identified and gender-nonconforming artists all year long as a part of A Year of Yes.

Raunchy rapper Cakes Da Killa headlines with sets by Discwoman’s BEARCAT and SHYBOI. Tank and the Bangas join us all the way from New Orleans. Plus we’re screening Suited and hosting a talkback moderated by fierce femme and queer fashion expert Anita Dolce Vita on Queer Style as Resistance in Post-Trump Activism. One of my favorite sci-fi writers Daniel José Older reads from his new book Battle Hill Bolero and discusses the art of writing sci-fi that centers women and people of color. Plus a special performance by Brooklyn Dance Festival and an look at our brand new exhibition A Woman’s Afterlife which reveals new scholarship around gender transformation in Ancient Egypt.
