Why you should read it: This is a Caroline-as-an-Original fic, but this one is particularly close to my heart. It’s got everything: Finn has a personality! Kol as a devilish prankster! Rebekah & Caroline as besties (my personal crack)! Caroline & Nik as childhood sweethearts! A sense of foreboding running through the entire plot like a red thread, because you know that even though everything seems soft and light (the blush of first love!), the story is told with the acknowledgement that everything goes upside down eventually.
Anna also perfectly blends Caroline into this timeline, where she could have stuck out badly. But she took all those qualities that make Caroline a great character and molded them so that they fit a circa 1000 AD timeline. I’m super sad that it’s incomplete, but it’s okay that it is, because I imagine the what-ifs and the possibilities are endless. One of my absolute favorite fics, and worthy of your time.
