Reading through your Pretzel translations got me thinking, what's so wrong about loving a problematic favorite (B. Mary)? Regardless that it's not good, bad or anti-hero/villain, it still builds up his character and grants him a different edge from everyone else, not to mention that charisma and being able to think ahead of the game is something else. Does he have to have more than a couple redeemable qualities to be liked?
………..There’s nothing wrong with liking a problematic fave? What is wrong however, is how the writers disregarded his entire history that built up his character to who he is today, and then shoehorn him into multiple food souls’ backstory to act as a convenient villain for the sake of plot progress but still somehow, end up with more plot holes (e.g stargazy pie’s story).
Of course his backstory doesn’t excuse his actions (he’s been problematic since day 1 I still stan hard lmao) but I’m just tired of him being used as a cheap means to change the tide of a food soul’s story. And then disappear without further mentioning.
Yeah, he’s a smart and tactical bastard from what we’ve seen (people believe he’s a bimbo? I think the fuck not!), but what’s so wrong with wanting to see him heal and get better?
There’s nothing more satisfying to me than seeing someone who’s fallen into a dark place heal and recover from trauma and learning to better themselves. Hey, let’s not forget Mary wasn’t always like this! He loved humans, he believed human lives are precious because they are able to emit warmth. One of his in-game lines about hating the smell of blood but there’s nothing else warmer than it, shows he’s not entire gone. It can be seen as a metaphor for alcoholism and drug addiction to imo (not drinking because you necessarily like the taste, but it’s the only way they know how to cope). Why won’t Funtoy give him that?
It makes no sense for Bloody Mary to be an antagonizing force once again, (I don’t wanna leap to snap judgement without the whole backstory but so far it’s bad vibes!!!!) and he’s getting a reverse spaghetti treatment; while he is introduced as sympathetic at first, now we work back to vilification :/
He’s literally one of the most interesting characters and for Funtoy to so blatantly disregard that and his backstory in favor of needing an antagonizing force is….It Sucks.
Blood Mary (and I cannot stress this enough) deserves to get better.
