WIP guessing game: fear

I'm not sure yet if I'm gonna really have time, but I'm hoping to be able to do codywan week... this is one of the stories I'm working on right now. (I keep laughing, because I put things in my WIP folder way before I start posting them, so some of these are WIP to me, but not to the rest of y'all)

“I was afraid,” Vader whispered. The foolish boy, unable to accept that he still was. “He promised me. He promised me he could save her.”

“He lied,” Obi-Wan said simply. “I wouldn’t have.”

The Emperor had appeared gentle once, his shadows deeply hidden. Obi-Wan rather thought he could have done it better.

Vader fell to his knees. He was trembling. “Master, I’m sorry.”

Obi-Wan took the final step forward, let a hand come gently to Vader’s hair.

He stared into Vader’s eyes. He could see what the Emperor had seen, the power, the violence. Obi-Wan saw the scared man who had never learned to exorcise his fear.

Fear, he decided, was useless to him.

“Cody,” he commanded quietly.

A single blaster shot rang through the air, and Vader slumped forward, falling against Obi-Wan’s legs.

Obi-Wan stepped back, let the body fall to the ground. He stared down at the body, thought of the younglings the man had lauded over killing. This is because of you, Vader had told him.
