a horrible lil parasitic squirming horror. they constantly hunger for the warmth of blood and will burrow into flesh to get to it, usually with the end result of completely taking over the host organisms circulatory system. when their food source runs dry, they drive their poor host to find more, as at that point they’re so entrenched in the host organism they cannot be removed

so basically. horrible vampiric monstrosities that turn people into vampires. dont let one get you. their touch is like burning ice that writhes under your skin

Dark District ideas i had at work. mostly rambling thoughts about the alien lifeform that drives most of the story~

the beings that came to earth in the meteor shower are known collectively as The Infestation. they feed on sentience and crave physical forms. they are eldritch horrors of the stars, half physical and half ethereal. they flicker in and out of existence. they are hungry, always hungry. hungry for something they cant really understand

they ride spaceborne debris between stars, silent and searching. they’re not... evil, really. they’re just another species doing what it does. they just feed on something no one would normally view as a foodsource

the ones that crave physical form search out sentient, intelligent things and infest them, taking root deep in their bodies in places that we’re not yet aware of. they dont control. control is not their aim. they just want to exist and feed. maybe they are like symbiotes? or more like parasites. im not really sure which. this is where vampires and werewolves come from. different forms/strains of The Infestation

there are others. vicious ones. secretive ones. quiet ones. infestation forms that hide in whispers, old moonlight, and memories. forms that are comprised of nothing but tentacles writhing in silence. others that are sleek and fast and hunt the emotion of happiness, only to feed exclusively on the abject fear that comes shortly afterwards

the infestation probably isn’t even all the same “species”. its probably a mishmash of horrors from across the aeons, chillin together until the time comes when it finds a new world to check out

i keep thinking about dark district and the whole cyberpunk + cosmic horror theme is so FUN. im trying to work out a map for the day 2 theme and like. theres gonna be massive craters from various impacts and they’re all named as “seas” like Sea of Dust and Sea of Whispers. maybe smaller craters could be named as lakes?? so fun so fun

World Building June:  Introduction

The world of Dark District is one that is at war with things it does not yet understand. Things it names after old monsters of the past: werewolves, vampires, ghosts and demons. Unnamed terrors of the dark. Things that came from the dimmest stars on the coldest nights and stole their way into the world on quiet wings.

The first glimpse of someone else in the depths of space came many, many long years past. Unexplained radio waves. Things moving between the stars in ways that unsettled the people who saw. Until it culminated in the strike, the impact; the juddering weight of hundreds of tonnes of rock and organic matter bringing its Pandora’s Box of monsters to our front door.

Thus began the sullen age of monsters. Where in a time of technological prowess, stories of the past became reality and fairy tales became twisted horrors. Where between towering skyscrapers vampires prowl. And in oppressive alleyways werewolves skulk. And in the collective soul of humanity, there is only fear.
