WBJ Day 30: Disasters
Final WBJ thing for this year. I have two other things to post afterwards, then I need to sit down and stockpile entries again. Now, on to this...
Disasters, oh dear...
Aside from the regular disasters of our world, both Trys and Viesn has their own disasters from different changes from our world.
Two disasters in Viesn is caused by ley lines growing violent. Disortions is one of them, an event that causes localized gravital disturbances and lights to fail, creating strange floating lights, and makes the magic there even more powerful but also uncontrollable for anything short of Faerie, even lashing out unprompted. The other is a Void Maw, which is far less dangerous but classified as a disaster by magic users, where magic is being drawn away from that specific place and an area around it, into the void between worlds, making magic incredibly weak at that location and nearby. It is currently unknown what causes ley lines to go violent.
Large-scale disasters tends to happen on their own, but there have been times they have been a result of Faerie Royals arguing, Faerie fighting using magic, or dragons having been provoked far beyond their breaking point. They very much deal with these events in the same way as we do in our world.
On the other side of the coin is Trys, where Chaos Storms, as covered in Weather yesterday, are counted as a natural disaster, and Void Openings, which are localized black holes for Order opening for a time between an hour to a day, after which it closes - leaving a mess of melted, recoloured, and downright weird things in it's place. Both are caused by high concentration of chaos.
Disasters are usually accounted to the Goddess of Life and Nature, except for those two specific - which are known to be the fault of the Goddess of Chaos. There are prayers made to calm the Goddesses or to ask the God of Order to put everything right, there are buildings built to last despite natural disasters and protective magic to guard against them.
