To be touch deprived in a relationship sucks
There's a cage you can't see, but its bars grow inward.
It's not noise. It's a frequency. It's the sound of something breaking and no one hears it because the world is too busy learning to breathe slowly.
Sometimes the body becomes too small for everything it carries. The ribs tighten. The lungs beg for mercy. Sometimes I feel my bones too close to the skin, like they want out.
And my hands — those two strangers — tremble as if they remember something I don't.
I stare at the ceiling and calculate how much longer before it caves in.
How much anesthesia? How much silence? How many more laps before the center gives? How much blood must I lose before my body stops demanding?
Because that's what sanity is: burning in a room full of people and no one noticing the smoke.
But if this is the only thing that hasn't left, if this trembling is the only proof I'm still here, then let it be my voice. Let it burn everything. Let the ceiling collapse and let the air from outside never find my mouth again.
