OK what if there were mermaids that live in dark mako?

The voices of the Old Ones call to them from the flowing streams. They know Omega, “Grandfather”, oldest of the old; his temples lie under the indigo waves. They work the shadows, and also the light, drawing magic from the darkness and from the eerie glow of materia crystals. Jenova is a distant rumor of evil whose name they won’t utter. They call her the Hunger, when they name her at all. They know nothing of Shinra, or reactors, only the moonlight and starlight on the pools of dark mako, and the glow-worms that live in the deepest caves.
