Reposting an old work in honor of the POTO Dark Week writing event.  Rating: T Archive Warnings: Choose not to Warn Summary:  When a child's body washes up on the shore of Erik's lake, Christine becomes obsessed with solving the mystery, even as it haunts her to the edges of madness.  Are ghosts real, or is she losing her mind? Neither Erik nor Raoul know how to help her, though both men try their utmost in their desperate love for her. Soon, Christine learns that tampering with the dead, even with the noblest intentions, may have consequences beyond her most terrible nightmares.

my prompt for DARK WEEK: Guardian Angel!Nicky has protected Joe since he was a child. His duty is to watch over him until his death. The Law of God has decreed that Joe is to die in his early 30’s. Over the years, however, Nicky has fallen in love with him. In the end Nicky cuts off his own wings with immense pain, as he cannot follow a God who wants to kill a soul as beautiful as Joe.

Marrow Bone, a joenicky Dark!Au

Born as an omega, Nicky was supposed to make his parents proud: get his first heat at fourteen, be noticed by a rich alpha, prove his fertility by giving birth to a brood of children. But Nicky turns fourteen, then fifteen, then sixteen, and nothing happens: he’s an omega alright, but not a fertile one, and who’s going to want a barren omega?

The answer can be found in Albert Burthem, an alpha three times Nicky’s age whose wife has recently passed and whose only desire is to spend the remaining years of his life with a pretty thing by his side. It would have been impossible for Nicky to not resent his husband, the secluded life he has to conduct to please him, the step-children who are older than him.

However, everything changes when he meets Joe, an alpha who works as a milkman and who always makes sure to pass in front of Nicky’s house, smiling and waving at him.

It really doesn’t take much, for Nicky and Joe, to begin an affair, and soon Albert’s presence stops being a simple nuisance and becomes a threat to their happiness. A threat they have to eliminate no matter how.
