Everyone is alone. Everyone is empty. People no longer have need of others. You can always find a spare for any replacement. Any relationship can be replaced. I had gotten bored of a world like that. But for some reason... the thought that someone other than you might kill me never occurred to me. Say, what do you think Kogami? After this, will you be able to find a replacement for me?
With a sudden gasp, his eyes shot open in shock. His heart was beating so fast it threatened to escape his chest. His right hand slowly moved to where he had been stabbed during his fight with Kougami. A state of an uncharacteristic shock swept over him as he felt nothing, no blood, no pain, no wound. A sharp pain surged through his head as he remembers his final moments. “A dream...?” No, it could not be. How could of he survived his death at the hands of the former inspector, however, he is alive, there was no mistaking that fact.
Confusion clouded his judgement as he momentarily questioned his own sanity. But has he ever had any sanity to question in the first place? By the standards of the society, he had lived in, he played the roles of a despicable criminal, a productive member of society, and a potential ruler. He muttered “ ‘The only difference between the sane and the insane is that the sane have the power to lock up the insane.’ Hunter S. Thompson.” But such had not been the case in the world he had lived in. The insane ruled the cattle that had become of the population of Japan.
Makishima had been summoned by his own merits as a human. The very same that earned him the unwanted attention of sibyl. However, he couldn’t help but sense that unlike sibyl, he had not been brought here to be a ruler or overseer, but as a player instead. A satisfied smirk made its way across his lips as the endless possibilities crossed his mind. It was safe to assume that likeminded people had also been summoned here but it was hard to believe they would come from his land. He’d made use of all the worthless cattle that ever showed a glimmer of potential in Japan, thus that only left a few other choices as to who he would be joining and vise versa. The other chosen ones would have to be either locals or from places unknown to him. He erupted into a hysterical and uncharacteristic laughter. This whole situation was so far fetched he had to wonder if his whole life had been a lie and the true Makishima was locked away in the deepest part of his mind as he concocted this absurd scenario.
Staring at the landscape before him he wondered what type of people he’d meet and the different situations he’d be able to test them in. Before he died he asked Kougami if he’d be able to find a replacement for him. Yet the tables had turned, the better question was who would become his replacement for Kougami?
