HOBART TASK H: DARK AND WET EXPERIENCES 3

I enjoyed my last night in Hobart sitting around the dock having some of the city’s famous sea food and had plenty of time to sit back and reflect on the last few days and the experiences I was lucky enough to have. Overall the trip was extremely enriching, from intense site analysis to just being in a city like Hobart and being able to experience the deep history that is inscribed within the cities architecture. I measured many features, took many photos, spoke to may people and was harassed by many seagulls, but from all of that I have certainly gained a better understanding of what the Dock does for its context, both Human and Non Human. From here I plan to use the information I gathered to look at bigger newly discovered issues on a larger scale and think about how the dock itself can be used as a platform to confront them.

The last night in Hobart. This trip let me found the relationship between the ocean and people in Tasmania. They love nature and ocean. Their history started from ocean and they live a peaceful life.

HOBART TASK H - Dark & Wet Experiences 3. . . . Measuring, data collecting, observing, taking notes, drawing, sketching, recording, listening, mapping, making montages, writing. All of these are done in ensuring that we understand Victoria Dock, Hobart. The interaction of humans and non-humans in the dock is abundant, making it one of the many considerations needed to be taken into account when designing. Elements such as lights, sounds, movements, smells, atmospheres need to be considered. . Three days in Hobart is just not enough, but that is it for this site visit. . . Fin.

Dark & Wet Experiences 1  Inspired by Tarja Kankkunen’s multimedia ethnographic art practice, this combination image shows data collection practices employed at the Victoria Dock night survey. As it was dark at night, my DSLR and smart phone were my main tools for data collection. Temperature, light exposures and North Face were among the datatypes collected.
