OKAYSO darkbane fae - does the darkbane need/use the braces? - brig; i signed out of tumblr and am too lazy to sign back in
okayso
Darkbane Fae’s braces are currently a spot of thinking, since I simultaneously want to give her a happy ending and let her walk without them, and I also want to do something really fucked up and make it so they actually meld during the transformation and become a permanent fixture on her lower legs. I’m an asshole like that.
HOWEVER
Given the properties of Darkbane [and the consequential Darkbaned humans], they are incredibly strong AND incredibly resilient. Canonically, Thaddius spends most of his screentime in the series [NOT the movie; he goes full Bane there] in this weird half-Bane form and we see in The Trade that he takes a pillar to the head, busts what looks like solid marble into pieces with the sheer force of the blow, and pretty much gets up and dusts himself off like nothing. At a half-Bane state. Not even a moment of stumbling.
I like to think that the ankle bones of DKBFae may be super scarred and bending her ankles would be a problem [super limited movement], BUT that she would be able to finally support her own weight without the need for the braces anymore. She’d still probably walk on her toes though, out of habit, and be really really confused when she wakes to find the braces no longer there.
IF, however, I go with the first way.
The second way is more or less that the transformation on submerging in Dark Water causes her skin to actually form around the braces and makes it super hard to remove them at that point without causing damage. Her bones are still reformed to be stronger structurally, so what was a massive weakness while she was ‘mortal’ is a lot sturdier in this incarnation. Her stride is still there, though, since it’s little more than instinctive now. If she finds a way to remove the braces in this version, then she doesn’t need them. Especially since they’re even more of an inconvenience in this one. Seriously. Sleeping is a chore.
