No fanfic has ever made me more nervous or frustrated than “A Fold in the Universe” by darkest_bird. Genuinely makes my heart pound. Especially Lockedinjohnlock’s podfic.

Rec: I’m not really sure I agree with the tags on this. The premise may have started out as a bit of fluffy fun but it turned serious fast. Far from being silly, it’s thoughtful, wistful, touching, and tender. And although there are dashes of humor and a very nearly laugh-out-loud flirting scene, overall it’s quite hard-hitting and somber. In other words, a story that has much more meat on its bones than you might think at first, with some terrific character exploration for both John and Sherlock and a resolution that I just want to clutch to my chest and hold close, it’s that lovely. Finally, the child abuse is not just implied, it is laid out in quite a bit of detail (in flashbacks) so proceeed with caution if that is a sensitive area for you.
A FOLD IN THE UNIVERSE is now complete!
At 150K words, this quirky, sometimes laugh-out-loud universe-hopping scifi story features two Johns, two Sherlocks, a mad scientist, social injustice, massive misunderstandings, incisive gender-based criticisms, action-packed plot, explosive climax, poetic resolutions, and a fair bit of angst, hurt/comfort, and BAMF!John. The epilogue is front to back smile time. It’s an impressive and fresh take on Sherlock fanfiction, a must-read new classic for fans of AUs. And if Omegaverse isn’t your thing (it’s really not mine), you might be surprised by how good this one is. It’s definitely not your standard fair. Also, did I mention how funny it is? It’s funny.
