maaaan smth abt dark's 'someday i'll break / that's just like human beings isn't it?' and the way tht for him n very much him specifically as a non-human 'monster' and an immortal curse who is fundamentally (inherently) lacking without his host tht being able to nevertheless love is also being able to live is also being able to die, (look hes a diehard romantic. literally) or him desperately not wanting to be forgotten and left completely alone and vulnerable above all else in a series that constantly repeats the concept of grief, first death, then second metaphysical death and how important it is for others who can to keep on living while protecting and remembering loved ones through memory, yeeeesh!! sheesh. y'know?
dark's not human for as much as he longs to be, he is a (literal) thing, nobody can ever, ever convince him otherwise no matter how many sincere 'but you are human! ur not a thing!' -esque phrases they give him because it'll always be a lie and missing (just by a graze, really!) the point of itself. he's not human alone by himself, but in his own way, he can still relate to them, them to him, in feeling from love to sorrow to longing to all the rest and his own someday-disappearance, his passing or his destruction- the same way that so long as he exists, even by the half, he can still always struggle for something full in other's memories before they disappear from him. sugisaki's interview remark on the last few chapters especially was her hoping to show that the art was always more than just these 'things,' that could be so easily destroyed, or things that, while considered 'priceless and valuable,' weren't actually worthy of or given any true love or sentiment, care or empathy by their creators!!!
in dnangel lives are equated too to works of art, just as the artworks in the series are magical and 'alive', imbued with others' feelings (a la 'in this world magic is created by human hearts') - so really anybody who gives dark a 'but you ARE human ur NOT a thing' line only needs to adjust that thinking just a tiny, tiny bit- dark's a thing, but he doesn't have to be just a thing. he's not human, and is fundamentally different from them, but he can be like them in his own way; his character is one that understands deeply, intimately, what it means to be born, even as a mistake, even 'wrongly', and to still want to bear meaning, to be a beautiful work of art(to be a beautiful existence, to bear a beautiful life,) and to wander and suffer as well as find and be found by 'something he's looking for.' (for him and many others, love - not just romantic, either.)
especially because dark is the niwa's curse rather than one of the series' full live-arts, his core is always simultaneously this nonfeeling human thing yet also daisuke, who is the human one between them, and likewise provides every human quality from body to cognition, sentiment and empathy to dark. but dark's 'breaking' is something that he does on his own, separated from daisuke all the while reminding daisuke that he's always been daisuke, daisuke has always been him, and that if it weren't for daisuke - he wouldn't have been able to live, much less exist. that's the truth, but it's the fact he truly ever existed at all that he could even accomplish something like this!! the opera ghost really existed!!! even if everybody forgets because the magic gets undone post-canon, daisuke never forgets dark! he's there and proof that dark had once been there, that dark was real!
Ouch... Okay, there's a chair there.

We got my grandma some chocolates for christmas because she didn't want anything specific. They were dark chocolate too. When she opened them, she made a disgusted face and said, "Oh goodie, something to make me fat."
GRANDMA, YOU'RE 89 YEARS OLD. STOP ACTING LIKE A PRETEEN GIRL AND GIVING A SHIT, GOD.
