warnings: Unhealthy relationship
Dream nervously looked up at Nightmare, wanting to press a little bit closer to his other half, but he was unsure if the other would want him to do that. they were in a public place after all. They was one of the AUs that Nightmare had taken over and ruled. The other had decided to bring him here as the other spoke with the leaders of this timeline - monster and human alike.
It was the first time that he’d been outside of Nightmare’s castle since he’d followed the other back home. Dream had only interacted a little bit with the other’s Sans-lackeys and that was only in Nightmare’s presence, as otherwise he obediently stayed in the section of the castle that he’d been told to stay in for his own protection.
He… He could do this. He could keep watch for anyone who might try to attack Nightmare (although the idiots who tried to do that would find themselves very dead, very quickly if they attempted) and… Be seen by other beings… Some of whom he recognized as people he’d desperately tried to help before Nightmare had encouraged him to follow what he wanted, rather than trying to please everyone else.
Nightmare hummed softly and one of the other’s tentacles wrap around his right wrist, a soft chuckle leaving the other’s lips “Easy, Dream. With the two of us together, there is no force who can oppose us and survive.”
That… Actually helped. A sigh of relief wooshed through him, and his shoulders dropped down into a neutral position. Dream nodded a little, answering after a moment “Th-That’s true. I just… I don’t want to accidentally mess anything up…”
Nightmare chuckled softly “As long a you do as I ask, I am confident that you won’t mess anything up. Go over the rules again, if you feel you may be missing something.”
“Don’t talk to anyone unless you signal for me to do so. Stay by your side at all times unless instructed by you to do otherwise. Keep a look out for trouble, and don’t react visibly or audibly to anything that’s discussed unless you signal for me to do so.” Dream repeated dutifully, a small smile appearing on his face. He was so sure that he could do this. They were easy to follow instructions and Dream remembered the other’s subtle signals - movements with one of his hands or tentacles, or a deliberate shift in the other’s emotional aura.
“Very good Dream.” Nightmare praised, causing the formerly positive spirit to blush a little in delight at that. “Now, we are about to speak with Empress Toriel. I suspect that her Judge will try to provoke one or both of us - as that is something he’s done in the past. Are you ready for this?”
“I… I’m pretty sure that I am. I’ll try not to embarrass or disappoint you, Nightmare.” Dream promised seriously.
“Good, I’ll hold you to that promise, love.” Nightmare answered back, pulling him in closer for a moment, pressing a light kiss to the other’s teeth before letting him go. They teleported directly to the throne room, ready to begin speaking with the local leaders.
