The Darkness Egg
The Guardian paused in her endless route through the tunnels beneath the mountain, softly glowing staff in hand to light her way…she tilts her head to one side, eyes half closed as she listens to a sound that noone else would be able to hear. “It’s been a long time…since a clutch was ready to hatch.” She breaks off her normal path, stepping quickly and silently through the myriad tunnels without thought, never getting lost as she moves to her destination. Fairly deep within the warm tunnels, a small clutch of eggs lies resting on a warm stone covered in a soft mossy plant. Six eggs are huddled close to one another…to the keen of ear, one can hear the light scratching noises of the creatures within readying themselves to break out.
One of the eggs blends in with the shadows at the bottom of the makeshift nest. It shivers when the light from the Guardian’s staff touches it.
The Guardian smiles faintly at the eggs. Even if they were the reason she was here, she enjoyed looking at them. A sigh as she steps away from the small clutch. She had to prepare for the arrival of the potential Bondmates. A gesture and a whisper of magic and lit torches appear on the wall - strategically placed so as to not agitate the shadowed egg, of course. She leaves the cavern to prepare the way…else most of the people coming would never find their way here. She would made their coming simultaneously easier and more difficult. They would come…even if they hadn’t heard the rumours of the treasures of the mountain, the call of the creatures within the eggs would draw them…
