She wasn’t sure what had taken over her that night, but whatever it was, she hoped it never touched her again. It had started from a small memory, simply her seeing Cornelius’ wedding ring lying still against hers in the old bookshelf. Above the bookshelf had been a large portrait of the two of them when they had first been wed. It should have been a moment of joy she had experienced while looking at them, not hatred and anger. While she stared at the person, and things, that defined her entire life- all the hundreds of years of it- a fire grew in her. She was certain that when she had been born, a different life was promised to her; something better than this. Her other life had been stolen from her; completely robbed and thrown away. She didn’t want it to be this way anymore. She wanted to start new.
Within a few hours, that mansion she had spent nearly all her life in was in flames. She enjoyed watching it burn, more so than she thought she would have. She had only taken one bag filled with the things she wanted to keep. Everything else she wanted consumed by the fire. Elizabeth stood nearby, watching her home be destroyed. Some guilt resided in her, but it wasn’t enough to stop her. She was leaving this life behind. There was no one left alive to tell her who she could or couldn’t be. This was her life and she was taking control of it.
That was the best explanation she had for how she left. Why she chose Russia? Even she didn’t know. Something about it told her she was going to have that fresh start she so often dreamed of. And for the most part, it was perfectly that.
Life was exciting over there. The cold never bothered her as it did others, and everyone was too focused on their own personal matters and revolution to bother someone like her; a newcomer. She didn’t matter and she loved it. It wasn’t long before she found herself an abandoned house, a perfect size for one person, and had set up quite the life. Everything was perfect.
One evening, Elizabeth got dressed and headed down to the bars. She was thirsty and had yet to drink from any of the people in her new land. She wanted to be careful with who she chose for her first victim. Only knowing her old tricks, she decided to test out the waters with them.
She walked into the bar silently, giving a sly smile to any man that glanced her way. She took a seat and ordered herself a drink. Now, to just wait...
