#DarkTO: Tens of thousands hit by blackouts across Toronto
Hours after lightbulbs started to flicker across the city, Toronto Hydro said on Tuesday night that 25,000 of its customers were still in the dark, the CBC reports. For many Torontonians, it's still unclear when the lights will come back on. According to the utility company, the outages were caused by bad weather and salt spray, which can damage electrical lines. Toronto Fire Services said there were over 50 transformer and pole fires in the city. North of the city, thousands more were affected, with blackouts being reported by utilities PowerStream and Mississauga's Enersource.

According to the CBC, Toronto Hydro says the improving weather overnight has made repairs easier, but there's still no estimate on when power will be restored. And as is often the case, the event made waves on social media, with the hashtag #darkTO trending nationwide.
