I'm about to do something potentially disastrous, but first a short story full of juicy details (tl;dr: skip first paragraph):
My current phone, which is only a few months old, is my first foray into the world of smartphones. It's a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant I9000m with Bell Canada, and so far I'm very impressed with the phone's hardware, Bell's mobile plans and features, and the Android platform. I've also fallen into a disturbing obsession with custom ROMs and root apps. I can't stop reading about the latest releases on the scene and trying to figure out what I want to flash next. I'm sure my sharp curiosity will get me into trouble eventually, but so far it's quite fun toying with the software, customizing it to my likings. The speed and functionality of the custom ROMs and other hacked/custom software is amazing compared to the stock equivalents.
So that's the back-story, now for the news. I'm currently running Darky's ROM v8.0 Gingerbread Edition [Link]. It's had a few hiccups with things such as call quality (baseband version problem maybe?) and wifi enabling/disabling. But other than that, it has been very stable. And for this reason, I'm about to upgrade to Darky's ROM v9.4 [Link] and see what it's like. I definitely like the look of the changelist. Actually, I've only made it half way through the details and I'm liking the look of it. Whether or not it's stable to any degree is still to be seen. Then again, I think that's part of what makes flashing custom ROMs so fun. Cross your fingers, let's see if I can not brick my new super-phone...
Everything installed fine and I'm up and running, no instabilities so far. It seems a little more responsive, I like it. Hopefully it will stay like this. I'm glad I trudged past all the instability reports and just went for it.
