"My back still hurts. Will you rub it?"

Zach’s pouting; Mason can tell as much without even looking up from his book, and when his eyes move to the doorway he meets wide, hound-dog eyes that have him smiling on reflex even as he huffs a fond laugh. He looks away to find his bookmark and set the book on the nightstand, then holds open arms out to his soulmate.
“Come here, baby.”
Zach’s expression immediately brightens as he crosses the room, and once he’s on the bed Mason lays back and lets him arrange himself above him, face finding its home at the crook of Mason’s neck. He can feel him relaxing already, and presses a kiss against his hair whilst one hand begins to sweep along his spine in slow, soothing strokes, steady as a metronome.
“Better?”
He only gets a hum in response, but it’s enough to feel Zach relax even further into his arms until his breathing evens out. He manages to retrieve his book from the nightstand and switches hands, the left now resuming stroking Zach’s back as he loses himself in his story again.
