Fire

A world without Fire, a world without Ash.

A world without heat, a world without Glass.

A world with no difference, no color between,

All of the shadows made by the obscene.

A land free of burning, that painful crusade.

Yet is it not quaint, what Fire has made?

 Fire, much like priests in their churches would say,

In equal measure can give, and taketh away.

It brings forth the light that gives us all meaning,

Defining our lines, ending sight’s dreaming.

Yet it also can lash out in primordial quickness

To set you ablaze, stealing life’s richness.

 From darkness and fear, Fire was tamed,

The power of contrast captured and chained.

From Fire came disparity, in more than one path,

As Mankind grew and rose from the pack,

No longer defined by the strength of their back,

We rose, through the ranks, and never looked back.

 Yet I find it amusing, I find it obscure,

Just how little respect for these Fires of Yore

Remain in these stories, these tales of our past.

We are forged by fire, now Nature’s outcasts.

A world now with Fire, a world now with Ash.

Are we better off now, or are we doomed at last?
