I think the problem with a lot of "kink discourse" is that some people are just so caught up in their specific circles of "we're having fun and doing what we want, isn't this so spicy, we're fighting #thesystem and 'puritanical' values by drawing people biting each other, aren't we so cool" that any attempts to say "well what about *real and persistent thing that happens and affects specific groups they're not in*" feels like just that to them, a "whataboutism" and not, like, an action that can be condemned and seen as something to discourage

you hear about an artist who draws porn of a random teenage girl just because she has a viral tiktok, and said teenage girl even finds out about it and says how it negatively affected her, but if you say "hey, maybe we should call out this artist for drawing something messed up" some people legitimately think that makes you a fascist

and of course the black elephant in the room of raceplay that no one ever wants to bring up because almost every time no one's qualified due to almost every person in the conversation being white/non-black, or elements of how it feeds into racism are so miasmic that people don't even see it

There's a stark difference between "artistic andrea should be able to draw her weird albeit harmless big booby anime oc in peace" and "no rules, no laws, no decorum, if you think serial sexual harasser sasha is a danger to online circles, you're the same as an ICE agent/supporter"

I've seen at least two videos comparing Hades 2's ending with Steven Universe's ending, and it's annoying because on the surface I get it, but it falls into the usual traps people have when discussing Steven Universe where it completely sidetracks the contexts of which the diamonds were "redeemed" and

Why it was so important to talk to the diamonds instead of just completely destroy or imprison them

the main focus also being the various types of grief the diamonds were going through and how the story was also about that

all the behind the scenes issues with steven universe not being allowed to last as long as it really wanted

but one video's a tiktok that's sort of taking a potshot, while the other is a 20 minute video bringing it up slightly, so you can't really expect these tangents to be all that in depth, but it still a little annoying

Apparently someone made a steam curator but for people who supported what happened to Charlie Kirk, and when I first heard about it, I thought it was to uplift them, but no, everybody who did is under "not recommended" which does lead to some funny entries

As someone who has largely only gotten glances at the hades 2 ending, I think an underlying thing with all the discourse that leans into the main thing people are complaining about is just how much the game really drills into you that the gods aren't perfect and that they've screwed over so many people that it almost makes sense for them not to be in charge, and how even people on your side are saying "yeah, this fucked up thing happened because of the gods, and I know for a fact it didn't need to happen"

But because the *actual* thing the games are about is the struggles of a dysfunctional family and not the people they're in charge of or their history beyond that, those themes get brought up and juggled around but aren't really meant to be anything more than set dressing

Fundamentally, this is a story about "fixing a broken family" without really tackling *why* it's broken, *who* broke what, and also *who* is affected due to the fact this isn't just a random family but literal gods whose conflict lead to ruined cities and poisoned lands

The main person I'm watching play the game hasn't gotten to the "true ending" yet, so I'll see how it actually goes, but I can understand how the main complaint about the ending happened considering how it seems they're treating this "minor" part of the plot

The problem with troll romance discourse is that everybody wants the "cool and new" angles of romantic expression and no one wants to talk about how it was an inherently flawed system meant to perpetuate the biases of alternia and the division of emotional support systems, while also being a reflection of already existing aspects to human relationships and how people talk to each other as-is just framed as "weird alien shipping" to comment on it, and not something that id *actually* "unable to be described with human words" because a human wrote homestuck

This is why some people get hung up on moirals being "a type of romance" because "look, the text says it's a romance, let homies kiss homies" without reading further but also get super mad if you even hint that it could be platonic (or try to stress that everything in non-platonic relationships can be done platonically) even though the text literally says it's also platonic right afterwards

Curious that it's always moirail discourse and not about auspistism because it's a lot easier to point out that "a third wheel who solely exists to stop two other people from getting together" isn't anything you can spin into being fun for anyone involved, and is like the easiest to point to to say "hey, troll romance isn't actually a good system, it's just different"
