Austrian cucumber soup with spices from Syria and Afghanistan
While preparing an iced cucumber soup in the last days of the heatwave we got thinking about spices and how would our diet look like without them. The iced cucumber soup is a typical dish in many countries served during the hot season and prepared in many variations depending on the typical ingredients of the region. What makes the Austrian recipe special and at which point does a traditional recipe changes the taste with outside influences?
As a quick test we spiced up the Austrian cucumber soup wich traditional spices from Syria and Afghanistan, where currently most refugees arrive to Austria. The visual difference could immediately be seen, but the taste stayed the same in this such small amount.
