I turned Data into a fursuit head design!
I might even turn it into an actual fursuit!

Part 1 Part 2
Part 3: A Connection
As Data left the observation lounge, Deanna followed him leaving Riker to deal with his damaged reputation alone.
"Data, you’re overthinking it. You’re looking for a script, a perfect line that guarantees a specific reaction. But human connection isn’t about precision. It’s about being vulnerable." She told him.
Data abruptly stopped and turned to face her, tilting his head, his golden eyes narrowing slightly. "Vulnerable. The act of exposing oneself to potential emotional injury. How does that facilitate a positive outcome?"
"It shows that you value the other person more than you value your own comfort," she explained, "Don’t try to be charming, or smooth, or anything you’ve seen on the holodeck. Just tell them the truth. Tell them why you want to spend time with them. If you’re honest, that’s all anyone can really ask for."
Data processed this for a silent moment. "So... I should simply state my intention and my reasoning."
"Exactly," Deanna said encouragingly. "Just be yourself, Data. That’s more than enough."
The next day, Data found you in the arboretum quietly reading a book sitting underneath a dogwood tree. He stood silent for a few seconds, watching you. He determined that the way you looked just now to be…aesthetically pleasing. He took note of it, deciding that perhaps he would try to recreate this in a painting. He was also reviewing his internal parameters one last time, discarding some of the phrases he had considered earlier.
“Y/N?” He said, his voice soft.
Data shifted his weight slightly. He did not look at the stars or the flora; he looked directly at you, his focus absolute.
You turned, smiling as you saw him. "Hi, Data! What can I do for you?”
“I would like to clarify what you observed yesterday between myself and Commander Riker.” He stated.
“Oh, you don’t have to explain Data.” You assured him, folding your book and holding it on your lap. It was true. It was none of your business who he wanted to be with. It hurt a little that it wasn’t you. But you wanted Data to be happy and he was happy with Riker.
“I believe I do. I was not flirting with Commander Riker.” He began, “he was merely providing instruction.”
You stared at him for a moment. “Instruction?”
“Yes. Commander Riker has demonstrated considerable proficiency in establishing romantic relationships. I wished to improve my own abilities.” He explained.
You nodded your head. It all made sense now. He was interested in someone else and was looking for advice.
“Well, I hope it works out.” You said, forcing a small smile, opening your book back up.
“I believe it already has, in a sense.”
You looked back up at him, confused.
“The individual I wished the flirt with was you.” He told you, taking a step closer. "I realized that when I analyze my daily activities, I find that the periods I spend in your company are consistently the most interesting. My heuristic processors note a marked increase in my curiosity and a significant decrease in my desire to perform routine maintenance tasks when you are present."
“Data.” You were stunned, completely forgetting about the book in your hand. Was he really saying what you think he was saying?
He paused for a moment recalling Troi’s advice earlier not to overthink it. “Would you accompany me on a date?” He finally asked.
Your heartbeat suddenly seemed so much louder in the arboretum. “A date?”
“Yes. I understand that dates commonly include conversation, shared meals, and opportunities to learn more about another individual.”
“That’s… generally how they work.” You couldn’t believe it. He actually asked you out and in a very sweet, very Data way.
“I would enjoy learning more about you.” He added. You looked at him—at the slight, hopeful tilt of his head and the earnestness in his golden eyes—and you couldn't help but smile.
“So your grand flirting strategy is just asking me directly?” You joked, getting up from your spot and taking a step towards him.
“Commander Riker proposed several alternatives.”
“And?”
“I determined they were unnecessarily elaborate.” He admitted.
You laughed. “I think you made the right choice.”
“I’d love to go on a date with you.” You told him, reaching for his hand. His fingers curled around yours with careful precision.
Data’s posture shifted, an almost imperceptible relaxation of his shoulders that a casual observer would have missed entirely. "I am... pleased," he said, the words carefully chosen. "My subroutines for 'anticipation' are currently running at maximum capacity. Shall we say 19:00 hours?"
“I look forward to it.”

Part 2: The Riker Maneuver
Data found Commander William Riker in the Observation Lounge, staring out at the starfield with a mug of coffee in hand.
"Commander," Data said, stopping beside him. "I require your assistance in a matter of human protocol."
Riker turned to face him. "What’s up Data?”
"It is a matter of...interpersonal communication. I attempted to use a pick up line on y/n yesterday. The result was unsatisfactory." Data explained. “I decided it would be in my best interest to consult with you on how to refine my approach.”
Riker couldn’t help but smile. Not only did he feel flattered that Data would ask for his advice, but also that he had finally taken an interest in someone, that someone being you. It wasn’t really much of a surprise. He had seen the way he watched you on the bridge and the way he went out of his way to make you comfortable. “I suppose I could give you a few pointers.” He agreed.
He circled around the conference table. “It’s all about confidence. You’ve got to own the moment.” Riker began. Data listened intently, his hands behind his back. “Make them feel like you’re the only two in the room, you know?”
Data shook his head. “I do not know.”
Riker sighed. This was going to be more difficult than he thought. “Ok, pretend you’re Y/N and I’m you.” He stood in front of Data and without warning, he leaned one arm on the wall beside Data’s head, effectively pining him in place. Data ran his eyes up and down his arm.
“An interesting posture.” Data remarked.
“It gets their attention.” Riker told him. With his free hand, Riker gently placed his index finger under Data’s chin and titled his head up.
“This is where you say something like,” Riker leaned a little closer to Data and breathed, “Your eyes glimmer like the stars on a crystal clear night.”
“Commander, that is factually impossible…” Data began but Riker interrupted him.
“It know. It’s supposed to sound romantic.”
“I understand.”
Just then the doors to the observation lounge hissed open. Worf stepped inside. He took one look at Riker pinning Data to the wall with their faces close together, and stopped dead in his tracks.
A beat.
Worf let out a grunt and mumbled, “I will return… later.”
“Worf! This isn’t what it looks like!” Riker called after him, but it was too late. Worf had already left the room. The damage was done.
Data looked over at the doors. “I believe he has made an erroneous impression.” He observed.
Riker dragged his hand down his face. “You think?”
He pulled away and let out a defeated sigh. “I’m never going to recover from this.”
Data stopped for a moment and processed everything Riker had taught him, not at all bothered by the fact that Worf had caught him in a compromising position with the first officer.
“Commander?”
“Yes?”
“I believe it would be prudent to conduct a practical exercise before attempting this on Y/N.”
“You want a practice run?” Riker asked, folding his arms.
“Precisely.” Data answered with a slight nod.
“Why not, what else have I got to lose?” He remarked with a shrug, switching positions with Data who looked very serious and focused on the task at hand.
“Show me what you got.”
The android approached with the deliberate precision of someone executing a carefully rehearsed maneuver.
He stopped. Calculated. Adjusted his position. Then, with surprising confidence, he placed one hand against the wall beside Riker’s head. However, his eyes met Riker’s chest instead of his eyes.
After a brief pause, he observed, “Commander… you are approximately 8.7 centimeters taller than I am. I believe an adjustment is required.”
Rather than attempting to reach Riker’s chin, Data studied the situation for a moment. Then, very gently, he grasped the front of Riker’s uniform jacket by the collar.
Riker blinked.
“Data?”
“I am compensating.” With careful precision, Data gave the collar the slightest tug, bringing Riker down just enough that they were now at eye level.
Data maintained eye contact as instructed and in a low sultry voice that was almost too perfect said, “Your eyes glimmer like the stars on a crystal clear night.”
Riker raised his eyebrows. “That actually wasn’t bad.”
Just then, the doors slid open again. This time you and Deanna stepped inside. You were showing her something on a padd when you both looked up your eyes darting between the two men who looked like they were very much engaged in an intimate moment. Were they about to kiss? You wondered.
“Are we interrupting something?” Deanna asked, trying to stifle a laugh. Both men turned simultaneously.
“No!”
“Yes.”
“Data!” Riker looked at him, his eyes wide.
“I think I’ll come back later.” You said, awkwardly backing out of the room. Your eyes looking anywhere but at them. The door hissed shut loudly behind you.
“Deanna, I swear this isn’t what it looks like.” Riker started, stepping out from under Data’s arm.
“Then what exactly is it?” Deanna asked walking towards them, folding her arms looking amused.
“Commander Riker has been instructing me on human courtship rituals.” Data answered her very matter of factly.
There was a slight pause before Deanna asked, “You were practicing flirting…on Will?” She looked at Data with the unmistakable expression of someone trying very hard not to laugh.
Data nodded. “Yes.”
“And how was it?” She asked, watching the way Will was clearly cringing.
Data considered the question carefully. “I believe it was successful. However, this did not work as planned. Y/N seems to have misinterpreted the situation and now I must find a way to rectify it.”
Deanna shook her head, feeling sorry for him. “Oh Data…”
Riker suddenly pointed at Data, “It was his idea.”
