Christmas Data Strike 2024

Instagram is literally suppressing every video I made on reels about this so I’m turning to tumblr. On the 24th and 25th, we are striking on Meta services (Instagram, Facebook) as well as X/Twitter and Tiktok. Streaming services, google, and any amazon services should be boycotted as well if possible.

DO ✅

Engage with activities that are offline

Spend as little time online as possible

Tell your friends and family that you’re going dark and then put your phone in airplane mode!!

DO NOT ❌

Use any of these socials period. Do not give them your screen time

Use google to search for anything - use an alternative search engine

Buy anything online

Stream television or music - download your shows and watch offline if necessary

Why?

These corporations, especially during christmas, use our data to train their models for next year. They want to know what gifts we got and what we’re doing with them. By depriving these companies of our data, we are saying that we want to maintain the right to our data and privacy! Here’s a tiktok video that explains in more detail.

PLEASE reblog for more reach!!! Tumblr is the only platform I can think of that won’t suppress this strike.

i haven't seen anything about this on tumblr but there has been a proposed "data strike" by tiktok user @ skyfisherforskyfish. This strike is about removing ourselves as much as we can from digital surveillance by abstaining from certain apps for 2 days (dec. 24 and 25th).

The apps included are: social media like tiktok, instagram, facebook, and yes even tumblr, Youtube, Spotify, and Netflix/HBO/Disney. Again, this is just an exercise of power which leaves individuals (hopefully the 90k+ that are aware of the strike engage) off of the radar during the peak of the holidays.

just thought some people would be interested, i myself will be participating.

Both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are to be spent as offline as possible

Prioritize boycotting:

Meta (Facebook and instagram)

TikTok

Twitter (X🤮)

Also any and all streaming services. (Spotify included) Piracy and physical media like dvds and vhs are your friends if you absolutely need entertainment. Check out your local library to see if they have any you can borrow.

Google is the enemy. Stay away from it.

If it collects your data stay off it. An easy way to know if your data is being collected is if it has targeted ads or is a free service not funded by the government it’s collecting data.

If you game disconnect your console from the internet and if you play PC don’t go through steam.

HEY there's a Christmas data str!ke being organized ^^ Here's some info (I'm new to this and still gathering information so I might edit this):

What is a data str!ke? Why is it important?:

With corruption and power falling into the hands of mega corporations who all use your data to make profits, we are organizing by removing our input in their systems entirely. The data str!ke of Dec 2024 will aim to stay off of shopping sites, social media, streaming services, and similar things that track you (where you're clicking, location, which ads you watch, etc.) online.

When is this going to take place?:

We are trying to str!ke as close to Christmas as possible for two days to maximize the d!sruption (many people have picked dates such as the 24th + 25th) but feel free to go as little or as long or shift the dates to meet your lifestyle. Anything helps

people on tiktok are organizing a data strike for the 24th-25th of december. idk if it will work, but the fact that tiktok is going out of it's way to suppress videos about the data strike, makes me think it will, so i'm gonna participate. it's super simple, just put your phone on airplane mode or temporarily delete your social media apps. for entertainment, choose books or cds or the radio.

any other website that uses google adsense
