First 100
My original goal for the launch of this project was to collect data from 100 respondents and use this sample as a basis for visualization. I charted out the entire month of September with the following plan of action: survey folks at shows, hit up a couple heads online, and circulate the project in relevant online communities. My goal: 25 respondents per week over the course of 4 weeks = 100 responses. I was surprised to see that in under one week the Datagaze survey has already reached 96 responses. Time to up the target. My new stretch goal is to achieve 500 responses in the month of September.
The volume of responses has freed up room for me to move on to other editorial functions of the project. With so many points of data and contacts collected, I can concentrate of diving deep into responses by conducting interviews and working on long-form pieces with people who have indicated that they would like to participate in the process. My new goal for the month of September is to collect 10 pieces of anecdotal content related to the project. I'll track this by scheduling 3 interviews a week and requesting writing submissions.
It seems like microaggessions are common occurrences in DIY spaces/communities.
47% of respondents report having experienced a microaggression
65% of respondents report having witnessed a microaggression
Seeing the numbers objectively has been a validating experience in justifying the need for this project.
