“Sorry mom, i didn’t know i had to ask for permission.” Loudspeaker on, the bird was savouring a five courses meal by the beach. Bare minimum after the last missions she had been sent on. “Why are you sulking ? You just said it ; we have nothing going on right now. Unless you wanted me to invite you ? By the way i’m here with your money… You didn’t know that yet but you clearly replaced Ollie, you’re my new Sugar Daddy.” On purpose. She had said that on purpose, knowing that a) Babs would be grossed out by the idea and b) she would crack a bit smile out of the prospect.
“Ohhhh I see, you’re gonna be jealous of my tan. But hey, flash news B. Gordon, I don’t think being a red hair is gonna help with tanning anytime soon.” The whole bantering and teasing was their thing, always had been since day one literally. The only thing that had changed after all this time ? Dinah was finally able to keep a phone more than a month, and new success ? She knew how it worked. Well the basic applications at least. “Let me send you a picture of my sight right now.” What Barbara expected was a beautiful postcard oceanic landscape maybe but, what Dinah had chosen was way juicier. The picture depicted the hot blonde with new companions— hot locals, bare chests and grins at the camera.
its his princess' birthday be nice - @datanexus
still worrying about me in your old age?
There’s age in his smile. Years and years that line the edges. But the core of it is hers. His daughter’s. The life she brings into it.
“ I’d be six feet under, pumpkin, and I’ll still be worried about you. “ He answered softly. Calloused hands cupping her cheek, thumb lightly stroking under her eye. And smile decorating his worn features. “ Right now let’s settle for your old man still having enough free time to worry, @datanexus. “
❝ Uh-huh! ❞ She exclaims, picking up her pace to stop dead in @datanexus' tracks. ❝ There's no moping on a Saturday Night, not in the company of a Blackhawk. ❞ Zinda gestures to herself, then her hands to her hips and fixes Barbara with a raised eyebrow.
"Did you just kiss me right now?"
There is absolutely nothing that would stop Clint Barton from going with his gut. If he had a feeling, he went right after it. That has caused him plenty of problems in the past; in life and work. It's how he ends up in the hot seat with the Avengers a lot, flying off the first bout of anger, he's quitting the team. It's this trait of his that always has him running head first into danger without a plan, without understanding anything.
It happened with love and attraction as well. He'd sprint head first into a wall when the attraction was there for him to do anything, especially with women. Go for it, whether he's known them for a day and ask him to kiss his hero, or married after a week, or not fully healed and ready for something new. Cute, witty women, who were a huge nerd and infuriating in his ear.
She's been on him about this mission she's assigned for him this whole time. Clint had complained to her the whole that he was the Justice League's liaison, not her personal errant boy.
Now they were cramped into a room together, hiding out because their covers had been blown. In a middle of a mess, that was absolutely Barbara's own making. She's the one that dragged him into this, and while he may have contributed to her plan going wrong, and their cover has been blown. it was still her mess, and she's infuriating when she wants to be bossy about that.
There's where the spark ignites, like flicking two stones together, him and her, and then bam, he feels that flash for fire. The archer moves, leans down, and kisses her lights with a lot of ceremony. Two fingers under her chin to get the angle. The reward is sweet, her lips soft and silence from her lecturing. After the moment passes, Clint definitely feels good about it. Then he pulls back, turns his body to go open the door to check if the coast was clear.
❝ Yes, I did do that, someone was gonna hear your ranting. ❞ Clint gestures with a finger towards the door.

Take a day off, he would say, any time that Babs and her get to business attitude popped up when they were working and he was not following to the T of what she order. Always with her Birds work, her League work, her other work he absolutely does not need to know about. It's what an Oracle does, see all, which translated to a lot of superhero work. Take a day off, he'd quip when she was annoying him with bossing him around (even while simultaneously liking having a bossy woman order him around). He's sure she actually does, but he's never been there to see witness it. If a tree falls in the forest, and no one witnesses it, does it happen? He only knows in theory it may happen since she only calls him for work.
Take the day off, she would say, when Clint's stubbornness reared its ugly head and he'd turn up to a scene despite how severely injured he was. He should've been taking the day off, for the sake of his own body's healing, but once something is started. He can't let go of it. If she ever called the other Barbara, and what's for him to not think she already has, his ex-wife would tell Babs that when something got him going it might as well be the death of him and her because he's only going to wind up more hurt. Take the day off. She also said that once or twice when she was mad at him or needed to keep him out of something.
It was never taken as a literal thing. More of a sarcastic snip at the other or a dismissal. Except for today. She offhand mentions some band that she likes and while he helping one of his tenants Aimee, she had mentioned that she actually knew that band and could ask to get complimentary tickets to this faire they were playing at upstate. That was a good and bad thing. Good because he thinks Babs liked this band, it would be a nice thing, and bad because this whole plan sounded closer to date activity. He knows that friends can do things together however he has not made this hidden what-so-ever about his attraction to this woman.
Clint thought he was smooth for playing off floating the tickets in her face with "as proof of concept of a day off" they should make use of these together. It worked, resulting in a later Thursday afternoon of loading into a car to escape their neighboring cities' heat. Clint took the wheel, and Babs had control of the most pleasant AC unit and the radio. He tried with the radio, truly, but he needed his hands for work and hers were a lethal slap away. This gave Clint all the excuse he needed to question her taste, but stopped trying to change it and even hummed along to some of the music.
Take the day off, and they were doing it. Although he would argue that there being cell phones in the car at all, or the fact he was carrying his Avengers ID, absolutely had made them both available for work at any given time. Or the fact that Babs could command a whole super team or gaggle of vigilantes through a phone call. He's not one hundred percent certain she hadn't been receiving updates from Dinah and sending information out when she'd pick up her phone.
Take the day off was supposed to be free from work, but what else could he do? She was in the car, looking like a dork in her band t-shirt, and was the sight to spy glances and smirks to as they took the three hours drive upstate. The concert was a part of some larger spring faire, and when they got there, he had stood around somewhat patiently (he can't help but to nag Barbara a little because he was hungry) while she fitted her chair with its needs for the evening.
Parts of the faire were reminiscent for him of his circus life. There was music going on right now, another band playing, just barely he thinks he hears the music over the noise of the crowd, fiddling with his phone to up the noise reduction of his hearing aids to listen as Babs starts talking about something he couldn't hear. It's okay, though, this was not really for him anyways. He doesn't need the sound of it all, only enough clarity to communicate with Babs. Although, as they walked, memories of pitching tents and awnings come flooding to him that he does state to regale her. Her use to do that as a kid, remembers his first job at thirteen, when the circus moved to a new town was to set the stakes for the food booths.
Clint raises his left hand to her, rubs the back of it with two fingers and points to spot where he recalled one time hitting hard with a hammer because he hadn't been paying attention. There was this redheaded girl, Marcy, when he was traveling with Carson's that had a knack for distracting him. "And tripping me into elephant dung, she loved doing that. Y'never believe the things I'd try to wash out the smell with." He doesn't know if he ever really liked her-liked her, but Marcy was one of the few friends he had his age and might as well count as his first crush.
He's got plenty of stories to tell, food booth ordering wisdom to share, secrets about the games and insider information about how these events go as they kill time until the band is to go. They have a fun time, a time where he almost forgets they were both superheroes, and all the things they do.
When the heat of the day finally wears away and their watches strike seven o'clock, the pair had made their way to the front of the concert venue. Clint turns off his hearing aids, since the sound amplification paired with subwoofers upon subwoofers of concert sound systems were a deadly mix. The vibrations however will be felt and if its good sound it will feel good. This was Babs' band anyways, so she should enjoy being up front. ❝ You're a dork. ❞ He teases her, with a smile when the band comes out, he sees her react. After a two songs in, he sneaks behind her and goes to take her hands, lift her arms in the air and wave them along with the beat of the next song the band plays. His eyes were on her more than the stage.
Knees bend, positioning himself to lean forward as Clint does release her hands, goes to talk into her ear. His cheek is brushing against the side of her head, as he speaks as clearly into her ear, ❝ Alright, All-Seeing, ya' got some taste. ❞ Calling back to his annoying teasing of her radio choices in the car, as if his were better. All he was really was saying that he was having fun with her, and that's all that mattered.
