every now and then i have a sudden realisation regarding m*leven, except it's not an "ohh that makes sm sense, my eyes have been opened and now i'll never be able to unsee this" type of realisation but rather just "oh. ok." like??? it's just so absurdly anticlimactic every single time 🥹

like oh, you're telling me that mike couldn't tell jane that he loved her during her final moments just because he's always been scared of losing her and therefore unable to verbalise his love in case that would make the day he does lose her hurt more, and that's supposed to be the most tragic shit ever? yawn. did you know that in s1 mike was about to kill himself by jumping off of the local quarry into the same lake that his best friend supposedly drowned in a couple of days prior? did you know that it was speculated that said best friend was gay and was killed by some other queer, and following the discovery of his body in the lake mike's mom sat him down and told him that she understood that will's death must be so hard for him to deal with and then went on to say that she didn't ever want him to feel like he had to hide anything from her? did you know that mike's closet rattled right after she said this because jane was hiding in there?

did you know that mike would've died that day at the quarry if it weren't for the fact that jane saved his life, so when she later ended up dying, sacrificing herself to save mike, lucas and dustin from the demogorgon, mike felt so guilty about it that he kept calling out to her via his walkie talkie for a whole entire year after her supposed death? did you know that when she ended up returning from the dead he lied straight to her face, saying that he never gave up on her even though he eventually had? did you know that he then attacked hopper in a fit of rage, taking out all of his suffering and all of his pain on him until he eventually collapsed in his arms and sobbed, repeating "liar! liar! liar!" like a mantra through his tears because he knew damn well that was what he was? did you know that mike then took jane to the snowball, because how could he not? he'd promised her, after all, and promises are something you can't break no matter what. oh, and friends don't lie, not ever. he greeted her upon her arrival and forced the tiniest of smiles, told her that she looked beautiful, because how could he not when being called pretty once made her so happy? he brought her out on the dancefloor with him and kissed her back when she leaned in, because how could he possibly deny her that after his terrible betrayal that she didn't even know of and mike didn't plan on ever telling her about, because what if she hated him for it? what if it broke her heart to hear it?
