Marlene nursed a nearly full glass as she stared out into the ocean. It was no Tinworth, but any proximity to the ocean felt like something akin to home. The salty air had long since settled into the lining of her nostrils; the crashing waves had grown static in the center of her ears. And Marlene, lost in the vacancy of her own non-thoughts of sorts, had fallen blind to the raucous beach behind her. Even the sound of nearing footsteps couldn’t shake her reverie.
