Urgent: I just got a job, so I need to set up a bank account. My parents are gonna come with me to set it up. Thing is, I change my name legally without them knowing nearly 2 years ago and don't know how to tell them this before we go to the bank. But they do not accept me being trans. I need to tell them before otherwise we might end up having an argument in the bank. I would rather get the argument out of the way before hand as it is inevitable anyway. How can I tell them?? (okay to post)

Sorry about the delay in responding to this - without knowing your parents or your relationship with them, I honestly have no idea how to sensitively approach this. If it’s going to be unpleasant whatever happens, it might be sensible to just come out with it matter-of-factly, i.e. not in a way that sounds like you’re open to debate on the issue. Depending on whether you’re living as male (and they know that), perhaps it’s worth opening with that and simply explaining that as part of this you felt it necessary to change your name formally, so that you could more easily use your name everywhere.

Do any followers have suggestions?
