Was pointed to this interview of film director Gary Sherman today (first clip), which led me to this second interview (second clip) with some more details about the film that never happened. Sherman talks about moving to the UK to work in ads and later, film, after becoming really disillusioned after the 1968 DNC in Chicago, eventually getting into directing features, the first of which could have been with Ray Davies-- it was not to be though, sadly. Just thinking about this great missed opportunity-- dammit, Dave, lol.
