The Band’s third album, Stage Fright, was released 55 years ago today on August 17th, 1970.
video transcript:
Stephen Malkmus: Matt introduced me to him, I think. Um, we were backstage, and he had a belt buckle of the band Magma, the French prog band which, like, was really... I mean, I know, it's just like, certain little things people have. It could be a tattoo, or for other people, it's a car, or just the right jeans, or something. And you're just like, "oh yeah". But like, that just really turned me on. Seeing that belt buckle. It's kinda like a Kiss belt buckle. Very similar, except it says Magma. You know, and the Kiss belt buckle also took me back to a time when that would be, like, something I craved so badly, unfortunately.
