Depeche Mode: 02 // London // 28th May
I went to see Depeche Mode last night, while I have always enjoyed the odd DM tune, I would have never called myself a huge fan or part of The Black Swarm (Which I learnt yesterday, was the name given to Depeche devotees). As I approached the O2 I could literally feel the energy of the crowds, The Black Swarm were buzzing. Every bar was booming out DM songs and hands were already in the air (2 hrs before the band were due to take the stage)
We made our way into one of the venues inside the arena and the place was going crazy, arms everywhere, fans chanting the lyrics, not sure if I have ever seen such a display of hardcore fanatical behavior. It was quite magical and totally got me in the mode for the gig ;)
We made our way to the main arena and found our seats, which we didn't use for the next 2hrs, the place was on its feet, arms in the air and everybody seem to know each song word for word.
The band were great, Dave Gahan was full of energy, gallivanting around the stage like a black flamingo. He looks great, really well, considering he nearly died in 1996 when his heart stopped!
The set was aimed at the pure devotees and although I only knew a few songs, I can safely say I have been converted into a DM fan and will be listening back through the bands back catalogue.
When the band played the classic 'Enjoy The Silence the arena went wild! It was a goose bump moment.
Martin Gore gave us a few solo's, the black swarm loved it! After all he is the man behind the music! And for the encore we got the party classic 'Just Can't Get Enough' the place was moving once more!
We had great seats and you can see a snippet from the show here.
We left just before the end as we were DJin one of the after parties, you would have thought after a few hours of Depeche Mode the fans might want to listen to something else, oh no, not DM fans, there is really only one band for them, so we gave them what they wanted, Mode tracks all night!
..."He added, "Martin and [Depeche Mode/The Knife producer] Christoffer Berg ended up doing a track with him, which I think is going to be part of his new record. Martin did some electronics and some modular synthesizer stuff he really wanted," he said." OH SWEET LORD
Depeche Mode - Heaven (by DepecheModeVEVO)
Depeche Mode return with a dark and bluessy' new video directed by Tim Saccenti for their new single "HEAVEN" from their forthcoming album "DELTA MACHINE". The album marks their return after some health complications for singer Dave Gahn in 2009 caused the band to cancel part of their world tour for "SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE".
dj set: musikgruppen, del 5
It's that time of the month again...where I astral project to Stockholm to DJ with friends while carrying on with life in good ol' LA. (As you can see, I've been working on this not being bitter thing.) For those playing the home game, here are my picks for this month.
