CWI president recognises US Open as serious cricket President of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Dave Cameron has recognised the US OpenT20 cricket tournament as the ‘serious’ cricket tournament in North America. Cameron made the point during his address at the US Cricket Hall of Fame on the weekend in New York. He said :”I want to applaud the efforts of Maq (Mahammad Qureshi) for his efforts in growing cricket here in the United States and his tournament the US Open T20 is the biggest in this country. Maq you continue to be a pillar as far as cricket is concerned here in the United States and we appreciate all your efforts towards this.” Qureshi who was present in the audience was also recognised by the Hall of Fame for his work in cricket. Cameron was the chief guest at the US Open T20 two years ago and got a first hand look at the set up in Fort Lauderdale. He left very impressed :”The quality of the tournament is very good and the organisation is excellent. Leagues like these will only help to grow the sport here in America.” The US Open is in its 10th year of competition and the tournament takes place from December 12 to 17 this year. The ICC sanction event has brought many top international cricketers to Fort Lauderdale to play and this has resulted in local players getting a chance to rub shoulders with the best in the world. Last year, players of the calibre of Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Keiron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis took part. This was in addition to US stars like Muhammad Ali Khan.
