White people who refuse to educate themselves over music astound me... you never went down to the creek and listened to someone pick and play bluegrass? Black roots. You never walked past a building on a college campus where you could hear a soulful saxophone solo wailing from within? Black roots. You never been to the club? Those deep, bassy, beats?? Black. Roots.

I guess its wild to me that other white people don't research/look further into their music, because I grew up so immersed in music!! Dad plays any saxophone, mom plays flute, my brother enjoys the tenor sax, and I used to play the trumpet so so much. Of course there were things I had to unlearn, but how can you listen to something and not be able to feel the emotion, the power, the strength, within?? Especially when it comes to music with black roots (most of it!)!

I just... music is such an important part of life for me, and I don't get why some people can't take a step back from the "rap sucks" sentiment and truly LISTEN to what's going on; musically and vocally!!

my parents weren't musicians or anything but my mom looooved listening to Chaka Khan, Sade, Aretha Franklin, etc... so i grew up listening to that and then when i got older i turned to jazz, even went to the Jazz Museum when I went to New Orleans. I love finding music and then researching the background of it and finding new artists, and I wish more people were curious about shit!!! Go research things for the fun of it!! Listen to what's being said, what's not being said, why they said that! Try to understand the history of something. Quit turning off your brain and go fucking use it!

for me, life has many highs and lows (I'm bipolar and borderline lmfao), and I'm always having to remind myself that while I may feel like this right now, I won't feel like this forever, or even a few hours from now. life is always throwing us curveballs we could have never anticipated, but you are strong, you got this!!

it's also at times like this that I remember this thing my dad always says; "If they expect you to zig, you gotta zag." As in, zig zag, like running in a game of chase or tag. When life throws something at you, and it's expecting you to zig, you always gotta zag. Don't give up; switch it up.
